Current Openings

Van Dam Custom Boats is seeking a talented, energetic and motivated addition to the team. Applicants must have at least six years of cold molded boat building and woodworking experience. Any experience with related trades such as metalworking, finishing and mechanical systems are a plus.

You will be contributing to the world’s finest, one-of-a-kind wooden boat projects alongside a focused and dedicated team of experienced craftspeople. We have an expansive shop with state-of-the-art equipment and a culture that supports our team and our mission. The current backlog stretches into 2021 and includes clients from around the globe, waiting to build their dream.

This position is offered as full-time, year ’round employment. We provide a generous compensation and benefits package for experience, positive attitude, problem solving skills and a willingness to learn Van Dam methods.

Van Dam Custom Boats is accepting applications for its Apprenticeship Program and as space allows, we will pursue candidates that represent a good fit and appear to be up to the challenge. It’s not an easy program, but if you are focused on becoming your best self and want to join a team of like-minded individuals who are intent on building the world’s finest wooden boats, this is the place for you. Supported and guided by an incredible team, you will join a rich company culture comprised of some of the finest craftsmen in the world. Not everyone will make the grade and we look for those who are passionate about creating, have a drive to be the best, and have the vision and tenacity to excel during the learning process. We expect a great deal of effort from our apprentices.  In return you will be offered a paid position of learning, with benefits and generous wage increases throughout the apprenticeship.

Job Summary:

  • To support VDCB operations by maintaining an efficient, well run, and attractive front office which is welcoming to potential customers or visitors.
  • To contribute energy and creativity to VDCB helping to create a culture in which all employees and owners can benefit and take pride.
  • To promote and support Van Dam Custom Boats marketing efforts by building brand and brand awareness.
  • Support Boyne Boat Yard (a Van Dam Company) Marketing efforts.

Job Duties for Van Dam Custom Boats:

  • Occupy the reception area answering all incoming phone calls, screening calls for purpose, answering questions as much as possible, and directing calls to the correct person as required.
  • Receive and screen walk-in visitors, tourists, and sales people for purpose of visit and then direct them as appropriate.
  • Make determination which walk-ins are prospective clients and direct them to Sales Director.
  • Conduct tours of shop for tourists as needed.
  • Keep Sales Director apprised of all contacts that could turn into a sales opportunity.
  • Support Sales  Director and company President in various sales efforts.
  • Keep the reception area neat, clean, organized, and professional looking.
  • Design, set up, and maintain in-office promotional materials and displays.
  • Monthly website review, updating, and management, coordinating with marketing consultants.
  • Weekly Facebook and Instagram updates.
  • Periodic mass email and spark stories to past customers to keep them engaged with Van Dam.
  • Maintain a presence on other social media as technology evolves.
  • Send weekly photos of the week’s activities to employees and key customers.
  • Keep all photos filed, organized, and backed up.
  • Select photos and shoot video for marketing purposes.
  • Put together photo albums for clients at the end of projects.
  • Write news releases and send out to publications.
  • Search out and follow up on promotional opportunities such as magazine articles, gallery displays, etc.
  • Coordinate events, parties, and teambuilding activities.
  • Make travel arrangements for team members as needed.
  • Assist management as needed.

 Additional Duties for Boyne Boat Yard:

  • Maintain the Boyne Boat Yard (a sister business to Van Dam) website.
  • Weekly Facebook for BBY.
  • Maintain a presence for BBY on other social media as technology evolves or opportunities arise.
  • Write news releases for BBY.
  • Seek out opportunities such as magazine articles to promote BBY and follow thru with promotion.
  • Coordinate with BBY President on other BBY promotional efforts as required.
  • Photograph work in progress.  Take photos per customer requests.
